2023 Unflat: Ruffles, Stacks, and Forest Boxes
Ruffles
The pieces in my Ruffle series symbolize moments when I faced the challenge of needing to deconstruct my work to move forward, ultimately providing a chance to engage in a new creative process. Through the meditative acts of twisting, stapling, and 'ruffling', these pieces find new forms and configurations, moving beyond their original state.
Stacks
I like to think of these works on paper as stories that unfold with each section, capturing specific moments. These cut pieces, once neglected scraps, now breathe new life as they reveal narratives waiting to be shared. Each painting in this series represents layers of experiences, ideas, and memories carefully arranged to form a visual tale.
Forest Boxes
Utilizing flattened geometric forms as templates, I crafted these small boxes by repurposing finished paper paintings. This hands-on approach of measureing, cutting, folding, and gluing, allowed me to perceive these artworks in a new way, as three-dimensional structures, offering fresh perspectives when viewed from various angles.
